Pusteblume is a German and Spanish immersion program for 2 to 5 year olds. We combine the best of international and American teaching methods in a nurturing setting that cultivates the growth and development of your child.
The Pusteblume curriculum is built around inquiry and exploration in the classroom, the school community and the vibrant city that surrounds us. Our licensed native-speaking faculty teaches music, movement, literacy and visual arts in a fun and warm learning environment.
“At Pusteblume, we have created a multilingual, multicultural environment that prepares your child to participate and succeed in our international world.”
In 2008, two parents, Lauren and Ralf Oberbannscheidt, realized that Manhattan had no German immersion preschool and very few Spanish immersion preschools. They teamed up with another parent, Carola Grundmann-Quintero, and in 2012 Pusteblume International Preschool opened its doors in a sun-filled space on West 14th Street.
Pusteblume is committed to fostering and nurturing your child’s creativity, independence and self-sufficiency. We believe that learning is best achieved in a warm and positive environment where children develop their abilities through a combination of play and academic instruction. We apply the most recent research-based methods in early childhood education to foster curiosity, develop trust and nurture independence.
Pusteblume International Preschool is directed by Friends of the German International School of New York, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
At Pusteblume, we provide a creative and positive learning environment where children can develop their unique qualities and characteristics through a combination of play and instruction. Our curriculum teaches students how to learn with confidence and enthusiasm by focusing on inquiry and exploration in the classroom and the world outside. Our program introduces skills and behaviors – from holding pencils and washing hands to listening to teachers and sharing with friends – while progressively building knowledge through a series of linked themes such as, ‘feelings’, ‘my family’, ‘recycling’ and ‘our community.
Pusteblume offers a number of after school, weekend and summer activities that give children ages 3 to 9 the opportunity to learn and socialize in a German or Spanish language immersion setting. We also developped activity-based afternoon classes to complement our preschool program and offer children ages 6 to 9 a Saturday reading and writing program for continuing language enrichment. All of these programs are open to children form other schools.
